Employment
58% of the EU 27 population aged 15 and more is considered “active”. The northern countries, Netherlands, Austria and Germany have high employment rates; the lowest activity levels are recorded in a few Mediterranean and recent member states. Though they differ very widely from one country to another, unemployment rates have increased everywhere since 2008. Higher education levels are consistently pushing employment rates up throughout Europe.
